Day 3 - Mon, April 27th, 11:38
PM Hostelling International Atlanta - Atlanta, GA Distance Today: 155 miles - Total Distance: 584 miles Today, I finished my journey through the Blue Ridge region of the eastern United States in Cherokee, North Carolina. The small town of Cherokee is (Surprise!) an Indian reservation. Harrah's Casino has taken up residence in the middle of town, surrounded by old, empty motels, lots of places to eat, and even more places for camping. (I lost ten bucks, but it was fun anyhow. A woman a few seats down from me won $3,000 on the slots!) On the way to Cherokee (following Rt. 19 west from the Blue Ridge Parkway), I passed through the very charming little town of Maggie. Maggie's AM radio station had an FM quality professionalism, and the town itself seemed just the perfect picture of a small mountain community. I crossed Georgia's state line and arrived in Atlanta this afternoon around 5pm. The weather coming in was wet, cold and.. well.. just plain blah. The sun came out for a peep show for about 15 minutes, then snuck back behind the clouds for the remainder of the day. I'm pooped. More tomorrow...
