Day 70 - Fri, July 3rd Sheraton - Ocean City, Maryland Distance Today: 27 miles - Total Distance: 10004 miles There's nothing more relaxing than an unplanned, sunny day at the beach. I'm getting a pretty nice tan going here, too. My family and I stayed on the beach for most of the afternoon. I did a little boogie boarding at one point, and the water was refreshingly cool. Did you know that when summertime hits Ocean City, the "population" grows so much that O.C. becomes Maryland's second largest city? Today was no exception. The beaches are packed with families, couples and friends from all over the area. It's a pretty nice crowd down here in Ocean City. It usually is. I decided to drive downtown and visit the boardwalk, hoping I'd catch some good pictures. I come here every summer, and every summer I forget how bad the traffic was the year before. It never changes. I never found a parking spot, even after waiting in bumper to bumper traffic for a good thirty minutes in an area that would have taken me five minutes to walk through. At least my car had air conditioning, I had my CDs to keep my company, and the scenery was unusually pleasant. Eventually, I gave up and headed back to the hotel. Around six pm, we all headed down to the boardwalk, and specifically, for dinner at Tony's Pizza. It's always been another tradition of ours down here to eat at Tony's at least once in our trip. The food's not really anything to write home about, but it's smack dab in the middle of the boardwalk, the atmosphere is nice, and we've been going there for so many years, it's almost sacrilegious if we skip it. After the six of us scarfed down what we could of our two large pizzas, we left Tony's and walked down to where the rides and games are. This is the second visit to OC for my year and a half old neice, Gigi. This is her first time, however, going on the rides... the same ones that my sister, brother and I had all ridden on as kids. It amazes me that they're all still here. She didn't go on the big rides, though. Just the nice, simple kiddie ones. She loved the merry-go-round, but cried on a few of the others. Poor thing. She's so sweet though. When she tried to say my name at dinner, it came out sounding like "Ernie". Of course, my twenty-nine year old brother ended up calling me Ernie several times. (Gee. Thanks.) That's about it for today! Only two days left until life returns to normal. Well.. okay.. normal for me isn't normal, but I guess it'll have to do. See you on the road...
