Day 52 - Mon, June 15th, 11:17 PM
Comfort Inn - Cody, Wyoming
Distance Today: 233 miles - Total Distance: 7094 miles

Today proved to be another one of those unexpected days, to say the least. But before we get to the adventure, I'll tell you what I did earlier in the day.

Border-wise, this whole area is a mess. In my visit to Yellowstone, I crossed the Montana/Wyoming border about five times, and the Continental Divide six times. I think I've got border sickness.

I visited Old Faithful again. Old Faithful doesn't seem to be as faithful as you'd think. Yesterday, it was six minutes early. Today, it was five minutes late. Okay, so maybe I'm being nitpicky. I just think they ought to change the name to Old Mostly Faithful.

I saw some more buffalo grazing around the park today. I forgot to mention in yesterday's journal that I was watching a special on the Discovery channel last night, and they mentioned that the buffalo in Yellowstone are one of the last remaining wild herd in the country. Food for thought.

Before leaving the park, I found my way to Yellowstone's Grand Canyon, and within, Yellowstone Falls, a spectacular waterfall over 300 feet high. Walking down Uncle Tom's Trail, you're lead to an incredible view of the falls, and the canyon it leads into.

I decided to head out of Yellowstone via the Northeast Entrance/Exit, which turned out to be a rather bad idea. It rained, and rained, and lucky me, it snowed. Not too much though. Not until later.

I thought I would travel along Route 212 heading east. The further I went, the whiter it got. Eventually, I realized I was driving through two inches of snow, with the side of a mountain to my left and a cliff to my right, with more snow falling. This was not a good situation.

I turned around alright, and found my way to an intersection I had passed half an hour before. It lead me to Cody, Wyoming, where Buffalo Bill used to live (from what the "Bill"-boards coming into town say). By the way, the Cody Nite Rodeo, held nightly at 8:30 pm at the huge rodeo grounds at the west end of town has been held June through September since 1938, making it the nation's longest-running rodeo. (Admission is $8. Call (307)587-5155 for details)

Tomorrow, I'm planning on continuing east and eventually reaching Devil's Tower National Monument, near the eastern border of Wyoming.

See you on the road...
